IsoDoor SD

IsoDoor SD

Our IsoDoor SD is our most universal sound control door. High performance heavy door within a 1-3/4" thick slab profile. Generally used in assemblies with walls using sound control products, generally single stud or staggered stud walls using Green Glue Compound, mass loaded vinyl, resilient channel, etc. Customers often find the IsoDoor SD as the good middle ground between high performance and reasonable to handle weight at 230 pounds in a standard size 36" x 80".

Our standard hardware prep for our IsoDoors is a 2-1/8" bore for a cylindrical lock with a 2-3/4" backset. Any additional prepwork required for your hardware will need to be done on site after installation is completed. We use redundant seals for the perimeter of the door along with a built-in automatic door bottom and acoustic threshold. Installation can be completed by any qualified contractor with extensive experience in installing doors. We do not have specific recommendations for installers, other than to only hire competent and experienced contractors to install our doors.

Frequent Questions

We recommend Inox brand handles for their quality stainless steel construction, which hold up very well against our extra heavy doors. These can be purchased online from our own site here: isohardware.com/products/tl4-series-tubular-lock. Purchase a lockset for a 1-3/4" door with 2-3/4" backset. Because of the universal size of the 1-3/4" thickness, however, nearly any handle will work with our IsoDoor SD.

No, not really. We recommend king and jack studs on each side, which should be mostly standard. If using steel framing, add in wood support around the door opening. Otherwise, our continuous hinge distributes the weight of the door evenly from top to bottom, alleviating most of the pressure created by the extreme weight.

We ship our doors laying down in custom built crates. Doors with jambs 6" or narrower will generally remain pre-hung in their jambs. Doors with larger jambs, or 8' doors with any jamb size, will arrive with jambs knocked down and ready for assembly. The LTL carrier delivering will be a reputable company that will provide a lift gate if needed to lower the crate to the ground so no labor is required on the customer's end to offload.

We can build our doors in virtually any wood species. Availability and cost will likely be affected if changed from our standard birch. Common woods like white oak, red oak, and white maple are usually readily available for around $200 to $250 extra per door. Other less common wood species like cherry, mahogany, and walnut are less readily available and generally add around $300 to $350 extra per door.

Each of our IsoDoors are available as double doors. Pricing for a double door version of our single door is right about twice the cost. The center gap is sealed using a steel astragal which is concealed with a wood cover, and a peel-and-stick seal on the inactive leaf is used to seal between the two doors. A flush bolt for the inactive leaf is also included for the inactive leaf.
